Quintessentially Foundation

Quintessentially Foundation, established in 2008 by Sir Ben Elliot, is a donor-funded philanthropy dedicated to combating child poverty in London, where 40% of children live below the poverty line. Its mission is to foster a stronger, more inclusive city by empowering disadvantaged children and young people through opportunities to thrive, rooted in values of systemic inequality reduction, community giveback, and recognition of small frontline charities' potential. Distinctively, it operates The Firefly Project, a charity incubator providing unrestricted funding, tailored capacity-building, skills workshops, volunteer recruitment, networking, and access to influential circles for sustainable growth and long-term impact.

The foundation prioritises innovative initiatives in education, mental health, mentoring, safeguarding, and skills development for vulnerable London youth, including healthy relationships education (e.g., Let Me Know), mental health transitions (The Kids Network), mentoring for Black and ethnic minority youth (20/20 Levels), literacy access (Doorstep Library), educational attainment (Team Up), and coaching for school leavers (Future Frontiers). It has raised over £15 million for 50+ partners since inception, emphasising organisational development alongside service delivery.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities—typically small, grassroots organisations with modest incomes and proven high-impact interventions—strictly operating in London; no religious restrictions apply. Grants typically range from £25,000 to £75,000 annually, often multi-year exceeding £100,000 total, with substantial non-financial support. It does not accept unsolicited applications, instead proactively selecting partners via research and recommendations; charities may register interest via website contact form, but only fits are invited. No deadlines, open rounds, or published meetings exist.

Exclusions include non-London activities, capital projects, emergency relief, and large endowments; its entrepreneurial, relationship-driven model, lack of endowment (funded by high-profile events raising £4M+), hands-on philanthropy, and rigorous due diligence set it apart for scaling overlooked London charities.
