Stewarts Law Foundation

The Foundation supports work for people in poverty, those facing barriers to justice, individuals with disabilities, and people limited by educational disadvantage. It funds a wide range of activities, including project costs and core costs such as staff salaries, multi-year commitments, and capacity-building. Specific examples include scholarships for disabled law students, legal aid provision, and support for homelessness, domestic violence, food insecurity, and children's hospices. All funded work must deliver UK-wide benefits, and the Foundation prioritises charities whose activities align closely with its strategic pillars. The emphasis is on direct, measurable interventions that make a tangible difference to beneficiaries.

The Foundation exclusively supports UK-registered charities that deliver benefits across the UK. It shows a preference for small to medium-sized organisations with strong impact alignment, particularly those whose work matches the priority areas of poverty, justice, disability, and educational disadvantage. Charities of any faith or none are eligible. The Foundation is invite-only, so it approaches organisations directly rather than receiving applications; it looks for groups where its support can create meaningful, sustained change.

The Foundation does not fund non-UK work or organisations that are not registered charities. It also steers away from causes outside its four strategic pillars of poverty, access to justice, disability, and education. Unsolicited applications are not considered, so charities seeking support cannot apply through an open process.

The Foundation is trustee-led and works by hand-picking UK charities through internal evaluation and a majority vote. It does not accept unsolicited applications. Funding can cover project costs, core costs, multi-year commitments, and capacity-building, with an emphasis on building sustained partnerships. Its approach reflects a legal-sector synergy and pro bono ethos, often supporting charities in areas related to justice and social welfare.
