Syder Foundation

The Foundation funds a broad spectrum of causes, including heritage and arts, education, youth development, health, social welfare, community spaces, and occasional environmental initiatives. It has a strong emphasis on physical improvements such as buildings, equipment, or innovative projects like youth expeditions. The small grants programme concentrates on charities serving Berkshire and the adjoining southern counties of Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey, West Berkshire, Wiltshire, Windsor and Maidenhead, and Wokingham. Larger grants occasionally support UK-wide efforts.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities of any size, particularly smaller, locally rooted organisations with capital needs. No income thresholds apply, though a regional presence in Berkshire or the adjoining southern counties is preferred. The Foundation supports charities working across its cause areas, including those serving youth, health, education, and community welfare. There is no religious restriction.

The Foundation does not fund core costs such as salaries or general running expenses. It favours capital projects and physical improvements over ongoing operational costs.

The Foundation operates through trustee-led, responsive funding. It welcomes unsolicited applications for small grants and may also proactively identify projects. Funding is directed towards capital investments and physical improvements, with an emphasis on high-impact, asset-based projects. The Foundation values agility and independence in its decision-making.
