Theatre Development Trust

The trust funds three main areas: audience development projects that encourage younger and more diverse audiences; workforce training and career development for under-represented groups; and accessibility enhancements for d/Deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent participants. Supported activities include outreach, inclusive programming, skills training, apprenticeships, mentoring, and sensory-adapted performances. Causes supported include arts and culture, education and skills, disability, and children and youth. The trust funds project delivery, research, core costs, and salaries, with a particular emphasis on initiatives that build sustainable capacity. Their work has a UK-wide focus, supporting initiatives that address systemic challenges in the theatre sector.

Eligible applicants include registered charities, charitable incorporated organisations, community interest companies, social enterprises, trusts, community groups, and individuals. The trust prioritises beneficiaries including young people, disabled people, and children, as well as under-represented groups such as d/Deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent individuals, women, and ethnic minorities. Applicants should demonstrate a focus on audience inclusion, workforce diversity, or accessibility. The trust welcomes unsolicited applications and considers both new and established organisations. There is no religious restriction.

The trust does not fund production costs, capital works, equipment, events, transport, feasibility studies, or emergency appeals. These exclusions reflect a focus on long-term, strategic initiatives rather than short-term or capital-intensive activities. Grants are not available for one-off performances or activities that do not align with the trust's core priorities.

The trust makes multi-year grants for project delivery, research, core costs, and salaries. It welcomes unsolicited applications and favours strategic, future-facing initiatives that build sustainable capacity. Funding is directed towards audience development, workforce training, and accessibility enhancements, with a UK-wide focus.
