Transport Benevolent Fund (CIO)

TBF supports individuals with a wide range of needs, including medical consultations, scans, prescription aid, convalescence, bereavement grants, legal and debt advice, and alternative therapies. Grants are tailored to individual circumstances and can cover various costs related to health, poverty, and wellbeing. The fund operates across Great Britain—England, Scotland, and Wales—and is open to those employed or formerly employed in rail, bus, coach, and tram services. TBF also supports members nominated by Transport for London through a separate fund. The fund focuses on relieving need and hardship, fostering resilience and wellbeing among public transport workers and their families.

TBF provides support to individual contributing members of the fund, as well as their live-in partners and dependent children. Eligibility is limited to those who are or have been employed in public transport across Great Britain. Membership is open to workers in the rail, bus, coach, and tram sectors. The fund does not support organisations, charities, or groups; it is solely for individuals. Those who are not yet members can join to become eligible for support. The fund prioritises the specific needs of each member, offering flexible assistance within its guidelines.

TBF does not cover routine dental or optical care, surgical operations, short-term sickness absence of less than two weeks, funeral costs, or losses that are typically covered by insurance. The fund also does not support organisations, charities, or groups, focusing exclusively on individual members and their dependants.

TBF awards grants at the discretion of its trustees, with decisions made on a rolling basis. Support is tailored to each individual's needs within flexible guidelines. The fund operates on a membership-based mutual aid model, and does not accept unsolicited applications; only contributing members can access assistance.
