The Foundation funds projects that directly benefit older people across the United Kingdom. Grants are split into two categories: health and welfare, covering refurbishment of care homes and essential equipment; and community and innovation, supporting exercise classes, arts projects, and other activities that promote social inclusion and mental stimulation. The focus is on tangible, replicable improvements that enhance the quality of later life. All funded work must serve people aged over 65.

Only registered UK charities are eligible to apply. The Foundation prioritises organisations that work directly with older people, particularly those delivering practical support or community-based activities. There is no religious restriction. The Foundation welcomes unsolicited applications and considers charities of any size, though it favours those with a clear focus on improving the wellbeing of people aged over 65.

The Foundation does not support salaries, core costs, staff training, transport, or petrol and mileage. It also excludes retrospective funding, building projects still in the planning stage, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, IT for administration, rent, and pilot projects. A four-year gap is required between grants from the Foundation.

The Foundation provides grants for specific capital projects and innovative initiatives. It accepts unsolicited applications and makes decisions based on the project's potential to improve the care and wellbeing of older people. Grants are typically one-off and directed towards tangible outcomes, with no provision for ongoing revenue costs.
