Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust

The Trust exclusively funds capital works to the physical fabric and historic features of Christian places of worship. Supported projects include urgent repairs to roofs, masonry, stonework, spires, windows, rainwater goods, organs, clocks, stained glass and monuments, as well as investigatory surveys. They fund churches, chapels and meeting houses of any Christian tradition across the historic county of Yorkshire, covering North, East, West and South Yorkshire. Buildings may be listed or unlisted, rural or urban, provided they remain in regular use for worship. The Trust prioritises smaller churches with fewer of their own resources and requires applicants to demonstrate a genuine funding shortfall alongside active local fundraising.

Eligible organisations are Christian churches, chapels and meeting houses of any denomination within the historic county of Yorkshire. The building must remain in regular use as a place of worship. The Trust prioritises smaller congregations with limited resources and expects applicants to show a genuine shortfall in funding and to be actively fundraising locally. There are no size or income thresholds, and both listed and unlisted buildings are considered.

The Trust does not fund heating or electrical installations, including upgrades. Improvements, re-ordering or extensions to the building are also excluded. Their grants are strictly for capital works to the physical fabric and historic features, so other types of costs are not supported.

The Trust requires match funding and active local fundraising from applicants. They conduct site visits as part of their assessment process, combining a broad, inclusive approach with practical stewardship of Yorkshire's church heritage.
