The Trust supports English language teaching and learning through several programmes. It funds fully funded postgraduate scholarships for MEd TESOL at the University of Exeter, open to experienced teachers and related professionals from low- and middle-income countries. A dedicated scholarship is available for experienced English language teachers who are refugees or former refugees legally resident in the UK. The Trust also provides small grants to widen participation of teachers from marginalised or under-represented groups in Teacher Association events, and project awards to enhance English teaching in public education systems. These activities focus on teacher professional development, capacity building, and promoting local expertise.

Applications are invited from experienced English language teachers and related professionals. For the main scholarship, applicants must be nationals of and work in countries defined as least developed, low income, lower middle income, or upper middle income according to the OECD DAC list. The refugee scholarship requires applicants to be legally resident in the UK and have at least three years' full-time ELT experience. Teacher association grants are open to teachers from marginalised or under-represented groups. The Trust also considers teacher associations and community groups for project awards.

The Trust does not fund general education or non-ELT subjects. It excludes capital projects, unrestricted funding, and interventions lacking direct teacher development impact. For the scholarship, it does not support PGCert or PGDip programmes, and scholarships cannot be awarded in conjunction with other funding. The Roger Bowers grants cannot fund event organising costs, expenses of organisers or leadership, overseas participants, or sums benefiting only a few people.

The Trust offers one-off grants and scholarships. It provides fully funded scholarships for a one-year MEd TESOL programme. The small grants and project awards are one-off. The Trust welcomes unsolicited applications. It does not require match funding, but scholarships are not awarded alongside other scholarships. Funding is directed at specific programmes rather than core costs.
