B&Q Foundation

The Foundation supports a wide range of causes including poverty, homelessness, disability, mental and physical health, refugees and migrants, domestic abuse, and the needs of older people, children, and young people. They fund capital works and equipment that directly improve home environments – such as repairs, decorations, safe outdoor areas, and essential fittings. Projects must be based in the UK or Northern Ireland. The Foundation focuses on the home itself rather than broader community infrastructure, so they do not fund community centres, support hubs, or well-being spaces. They prioritise projects where their funding accounts for more than 25% of the total cost.

Only registered UK charities are eligible to apply. CICs and unregistered community groups are not accepted. The Foundation prioritises projects that directly benefit homeless people, disabled people, older people, children and young people, refugees, and women affected by domestic abuse. There is no religious restriction. Applicants should be working UK-wide, including Northern Ireland, and the Foundation prefers to be a significant contributor to the project, funding over a quarter of the total cost.

The Foundation does not fund core costs, salaries, or retrospective funding. They exclude projects in community centres, schools, hospitals, hospices, nurseries, youth clubs, sports clubs, and therapeutic spaces. Grants are not available for individuals, political parties, religious activities, or general appeals. They also do not support projects for staff or volunteer areas, public bodies' statutory obligations, or privately owned profit-distributing companies. Projects in the Channel Islands or Republic of Ireland are not eligible. Animal-related causes are excluded.

The Foundation makes one-off grants for projects that must be completed within 12 months. They prioritise projects where their funding accounts for more than 25% of the total cost, but match funding is not required. Unsolicited applications are welcome. The Foundation does not offer multi-year funding.
