Belfast Charitable Society

The Trust funds poverty alleviation, homelessness relief, support for older people, education and training, heritage-led regeneration, social cohesion, employability and community integration. It backs community-led initiatives fostering self-reliance, pilot projects and capacity-building, with a focus on immediate needs such as isolation, education inequality and deprived neighbourhood regeneration. Geographically, it prioritises Belfast, especially North Belfast and Lisburn, and extends across Northern Ireland to acute disadvantage zones. The Society also supports heritage-led regeneration and social cohesion projects, such as community choirs, reflecting its commitment to blending historic values with forward-facing impact.

Eligible entities include UK-registered charities, community groups and social enterprises, favouring grassroots and small-to-medium organisations serving disadvantaged areas. The Society prioritises the most vulnerable, including older people and marginalised communities, without strict income thresholds. There is no geographic base requirement, but the focus is on Belfast, especially North Belfast and Lisburn, and across Northern Ireland. It backs community-led initiatives fostering self-reliance, pilot projects, capacity-building and occasional core costs. The Society does not accept unsolicited applications; instead, it works by invitation or through partnership discussions initiated via phone enquiry on a rolling basis, aligned to its initiatives. Its funding style is proactive and partnership-driven, emphasising sustainable, leveraged impact and sector development.
