Birmingham City Council

The Council prioritises funding for tackling health inequalities, poverty, financial exclusion, and community resilience. All funding is restricted to organisations based in Birmingham, with a hyper-local ward focus that ensures resources reach the city's most disadvantaged neighbourhoods. The Council funds a range of activities including capacity-building, neighbourhood initiatives, and health innovation, always aligned with its broader public health and neighbourhood strategies.

Eligible applicants include registered charities, community interest companies, co-operatives, social enterprises, and community groups that are based in Birmingham. The Council prioritises small to medium grassroots organisations that can demonstrate local need and impact. It targets funding towards vulnerable groups including children, families in hardship, BME communities, disabled people, carers, LGBTQ+ individuals, migrants, and other marginalised populations. There is no religious restriction on applicants.

The Council does not fund activities that duplicate statutory provision, religious or political activities, deficits, endowments, or projects that take place outside Birmingham. These exclusions ensure that grant-making complements rather than replaces public services and remains focused on the city's residents.

The Council welcomes unsolicited applications and funds through a range of grant programmes that are integrated with its public health and neighbourhood strategies. It emphasises partnership-based, outcomes-driven funding, often co-delivering with NHS and VCSE partners. The approach is preventative and evidence-based, supporting community-led projects that align with the Council's strategic priorities for Birmingham.
