CapitB Trust, established in 1990 as the successor to the UK Government’s Clothing and Allied Products Industry Training Board, is an independent grant-making charity dedicated to promoting education and training in the British apparel and textile manufacturing sector. Rooted in its founding endowment, its core mission is to enhance the skill base for those employed or entering the industry, fostering international competitiveness and preserving craft heritage through practical, inclusive support for skills excellence. Guided by sector experts on its Grants Committee, the trust emphasises evidence-led funding for demonstrable impact in workforce development, partnering with bodies like the UK Fashion & Textile Association and supporting icons such as Savile Row tailors (Richard Anderson, Henry Poole & Co., Huntsman & Sons) alongside initiatives like Future Textiles, Bonnie Tartan, and the Golden Shears Awards.

It funds training programmes, apprenticeships, professional development, and skills competitions across tailoring, garment production, technical textiles, and related specialisms, benefiting individuals, businesses, organisations, and sector bodies at all career stages to address workforce gaps and nurture talent.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities (plus aligned businesses and individuals) operating UK-wide, with no income thresholds or size restrictions—spanning small grassroots efforts to major employers—provided activities directly enhance UK fashion and textile skills. Applications are unsolicited via online form on a rolling basis, with decisions typically within one month; typical grants range from £2,000 to £25,000.

Exclusions include non-sector activities, unrestricted/core funding, infrastructure, or capital projects. Distinctively, CapitB’s laser-focus on textile skills legacy, nationwide remit without regional bias, and expert scrutiny set it apart as a perpetual champion of UK manufacturing talent.
