Children's Heart Surgery Fund

The fund supports congenital heart disease across the entire care continuum, including neonatal and paediatric cardiac surgery, adult congenital heart services, and transitional care for young people with complex heart conditions. It also funds comprehensive family support addressing emotional, practical, and psychosocial needs of carers and siblings. Supported activities include major medical equipment for cardiac imaging and patient monitoring, ward resources, specialist staff posts, professional training, scientific research, family accommodation, and psychosocial initiatives such as counselling and peer support groups. The fund focuses on CHD patients and families served by the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit, favouring collaborations with local clinical teams and capital investments in care innovations. Its geographic reach includes Yorkshire, the Humber, North Lincolnshire, and North East Derbyshire.

Registered charities and community groups can apply. The fund prioritises organisations that serve children, adults, and families affected by congenital heart disease who are linked to the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit. Eligible applicants should be based in or directly serve the catchment area of Yorkshire, the Humber, North Lincolnshire, or North East Derbyshire. There is no religious restriction.

The fund does not support non-CHD conditions or general healthcare initiatives that cannot demonstrate a clear benefit for congenital heart disease. It focuses exclusively on congenital heart disease-related activities.

The fund works in partnership with NHS services and favours collaborations with local clinical teams. It supports both capital investments, such as medical equipment and ward resources, and direct interventions including specialist staff, training, research, and psychosocial initiatives. Unsolicited applications are welcomed.
