Church Burgesses Educational Foundation

The foundation promotes education, including social and physical training, for young people under 25 who live in Sheffield. It funds a wide range of activities such as school projects, music tuition and arts bursaries (often in partnership with Sheffield Cathedral), apprenticeships, internships, sports development, gap year expeditions, and medical electives. Grants are made for project delivery and events. Organisations based outside Sheffield may apply if they show a discreet identifiable element that benefits Sheffield residents. The foundation also supports gifted individuals in music, arts, and sport.

Eligible applicants include schools, individuals, faith groups, registered charities, and community groups. The foundation prioritises children, young people, and disabled people. There is no income threshold, and small newly-formed groups without audited accounts are not disqualified provided they have proper governance controls in place. Organisations must demonstrate that their work directly benefits Sheffield residents under 25, even if the applicant is based elsewhere. The foundation has a preference for small to medium-sized local entities such as grassroots charities, voluntary groups, and churches.

The foundation does not normally fund higher education courses. School fees are only fully funded in wholly exceptional circumstances. It also excludes unrelated core costs and activities that do not directly benefit Sheffield residents under 25.

The foundation makes grants for project delivery and events, supporting both organisations and individuals. It welcomes unsolicited applications. It often works in partnership with local institutions such as Sheffield Cathedral for music and arts bursaries. Grants are directed to a broad range of pre-higher education initiatives.
