Community Foundation North East

The foundation supports a wide range of causes including poverty alleviation, health and mental health, children and young people, older people, environment and green spaces, arts and culture, community development, and equality and inclusion. Grants can be used for project delivery or core costs, and multi-year core funding is available through some funds for up to three years. The Newcastle Culture Investment Fund specifically supports arts and heritage activity in Newcastle upon Tyne. All funding is directed to organisations that work within Tyne and Wear or Northumberland, reflecting a place‑based approach to change.

The foundation welcomes applications from registered charities, charitable incorporated organisations, community interest companies, social enterprises, unincorporated associations, community groups, and faith groups (though faith‑based activities are not funded). Organisations do not need to be registered charities, but must be formally constituted. Individuals and schools are not eligible except through dedicated funds. The foundation prioritises smaller, locally based organisations with limited incomes, serving communities in Tyne and Wear or Northumberland.

The foundation does not fund faith‑based activities (though faith groups may apply for non‑religious work), animal welfare causes, applications from individuals, or schools outside specific dedicated funds. Privately owned profit‑distributing companies and partnerships are also excluded.

The foundation offers both project grants and core cost grants, with some funds providing multi‑year core funding for up to three years. It welcomes unsolicited applications on a rolling basis and provides capacity‑building support alongside grant funding.
