Douglas Arter Foundation

The Foundation supports UK-registered charities delivering direct benefits to disabled people of all ages. It funds projects that improve accessibility, social inclusion, and provide specialist equipment, therapy, recreation, education, and disability-friendly services. Examples include confidence-building for children and support for specific conditions such as CGD and Bardet-Biedl Syndrome. The Foundation has a particular focus on Bristol, Somerset, and Gloucestershire, though it also considers applications from elsewhere in the UK. It favours discrete, tangible project outcomes and high-impact, community-engaged initiatives.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities and community groups that deliver direct benefits to disabled people of all ages. The Foundation favours small and medium-sized local or grassroots organisations with a strong voluntary ethos and self-help efforts. There are no strict income thresholds. While applications are considered from across the UK, the Foundation prioritises charities based in or serving Bristol, Somerset, and Gloucestershire.

The Foundation excludes core costs, salaries, and research from its grants. It also does not support major capital projects, long-term commitments, or individual appeals. Funding is directed towards discrete project costs rather than ongoing operational expenses.
