University Hospitals Bristol & Weston Charity

The Charity supports a wide range of health-related activity across its hospitals. This includes physical health, mental health, disability support, services for older people, and projects for children and young people. Grants can be used for equipment, training, project delivery, and engagement days or hosted events. All funded work must take place within the Trust's hospitals and benefit patients, families or staff. Geographically, activity is based across 13 hospitals in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, covering sites such as Southmead Hospital, Bristol Royal Infirmary, Bristol Eye Hospital, Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, Bristol Heart Institute, Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre, Bristol Dental Hospital, South Bristol Community Hospital and Weston General Hospital.

To apply for a grant, individuals must be members of staff at Bristol NHS Foundation Trust. Staff apply on behalf of patients, families and services they support. The Charity's grants are open to those working across its hospitals, and funded activity must take place on Trust premises and directly benefit the hospital community. There is no faith restriction, and the priority is on projects that enhance patient health, happiness and hospital experience.

The Charity does not fund core NHS costs, unrestricted funding, retrospective expenses, individual hardship, or social events. Funding is focused on project-based improvements within the Trust's hospitals rather than general running costs or personal assistance.

The Charity works closely with NHS staff, who apply for grants on behalf of patients and services. Its funding style is collaborative and place-based, closely integrated with hospital leadership, and focused on evidence-based improvements that enhance patient health, happiness and hospital experience. Grants support project-based activity rather than ongoing core costs.
