Dunard Fund

The Fund prioritises classical music training, performance, and education; visual arts exhibitions and conservation; and the restoration or creation of architecturally significant buildings. It supports capital and major initiatives, such as concert halls and music schools, with revenue or core funding being exceptional. A small fraction of its funding supports humanitarian or environmental initiatives, but arts dominate. The Fund’s reach extends across the UK, with a strong emphasis on Scotland and Edinburgh, and it supports projects that reach national and international audiences.

Eligible entities are UK-registered charities or academic institutions, with a preference for medium-to-large organisations capable of transformational projects; grassroots groups rarely qualify. Key beneficiaries include cultural institutions, educational bodies serving young musicians and artists, and heritage sites. Unsolicited applications are not accepted – approaches succeed only via prior relationships or trustee invitation.

The Fund does not support short-term programmes, direct people or community support, or activities outside its cultural focus. It avoids one-off grants and does not fund grassroots groups or activities misaligned with its arts and heritage priorities.
