East End Community Foundation

They fund a wide range of activities including community events, training, equipment, and project delivery. Priority themes include community cohesion, health and wellbeing, education and skills, employment, arts, culture and heritage, and children and youth. Their programmes are targeted at specific neighbourhoods in East London, particularly St Katharine's & Wapping, Shadwell, and the wider borough of Tower Hamlets. They also fund work in Hackney, Newham, and the City of London. The Foundation supports interventions that improve community cohesion, health and wellbeing, motivation and engagement with education and work readiness, and participation in arts, culture and heritage. They fund both secular activities (including those delivered by faith-based organisations) and projects that provide quality summer provision for children and young people.

They fund registered charities, community groups, social enterprises, faith-based organisations and schools. Beneficiaries include children, young people, unemployed adults, and the general public. Organisations must be formally constituted not-for-profits working within the foundation's target areas. The Foundation particularly welcomes applications from grassroots organisations with deep local roots and an understanding of their community's needs. They do not fund individuals.

The Foundation does not fund individuals, medical research, political parties or causes, or projects that advance religion (though they will fund faith-based organisations to deliver secular activities). They also exclude retrospective funding, statutory responsibilities, foreign travel, and projects with no community or charitable element. Additionally, they do not support projects that take place outside the target area or commercial ventures without a community or charitable element.

They offer one-off grants for projects with a defined period of up to one year. The Foundation welcomes unsolicited applications. Their approach is grounded in local knowledge and partnership, investing in grassroots organisations that understand the needs of their communities. Grants support project delivery, equipment, events, and training. The Foundation does not typically fund core costs or multi-year projects.
