The Trust funds work in two main areas: accelerating innovation in low-carbon home heating and heat loss prevention solutions, and supporting early-stage businesses developing innovative, low-carbon technologies for the home. Programmes focus on practical technologies that can help lower energy bills and reduce environmental impact. The ultimate beneficiaries are households and the general public, with an emphasis on solutions that can make home heating more efficient and affordable. All funded work takes place across England, Scotland and Wales.

The Trust primarily funds social enterprises, community benefit societies, community interest companies and charitable incorporated organisations. It does not fund traditional charities as its primary focus. Organisations must be registered in the UK and carry out their work in England, Scotland or Wales. The Trust supports early-stage businesses developing innovative technologies for the home, with a particular emphasis on those with a social purpose.
