Essex Heritage Trust

The Trust funds the conservation and restoration of a wide range of heritage assets, including historic buildings, structures, monuments, maritime assets, church contents, listed public buildings, museums, artworks, landscapes, gardens, and archaeological initiatives. It also supports publications, historical research, and projects that deliver public engagement with Essex's heritage. All work must take place within Essex and involve capital works, research, equipment, or project delivery. The Trust is particularly interested in projects that preserve or restore any aspect of Essex heritage, with an emphasis on boosting campaigns and providing part funds to leverage other support.

UK-registered charities, community groups, voluntary bodies, museums, enthusiast groups, and committed individuals are eligible to apply. There is a preference for small to medium-sized grassroots organisations. Applicants need not be based in Essex, but the project must deliver clear public benefit within the county. The Trust supports projects that benefit the general public, enhancing access and understanding of Essex's heritage.

The Trust does not fund projects outside Essex, work without clear public benefit, or core operational costs that go beyond heritage objectives. Activities that are not focused on heritage conservation or public engagement are also excluded.

The Trust provides part-funding, expecting match funding from other sources to leverage additional support. It takes a catalytic role, aiming to boost campaigns rather than act as a sole funder. Unsolicited applications are accepted, and the Trust welcomes approaches from eligible organisations.
