Essex Youth Trust

They fund youth-focused interventions addressing educational barriers, poverty relief, and enrichment. Specific activities include after-school clubs, skills training, employability programmes, mentoring for young people at risk of exclusion, creative arts and cultural participation, amateur sports and outdoor activities, science education projects, and community programmes tackling social disadvantage, material hardship, food insecurity, and family poverty. Supported activities also include day services, peer support groups, therapeutic enrichment, preventative outreach for care leavers aged 16–25, youth unemployment training, and holistic services for those with learning barriers, social isolation, or complex family needs. They value community-led, inclusive, trauma-informed approaches. Geographically, they operate primarily in Essex, with additional areas including Barking and Dagenham, Hackney, Havering, Redbridge, Southend-on-Sea, Thurrock, and Waltham Forest.

Only organisations, not individuals, can apply. Eligible legal entities include registered charities and community groups. They prioritise disadvantaged children and young people under 25, with a preference for those who are temporarily or permanently deprived of normal parental care or otherwise disadvantaged. Applicants should be established local organisations with robust safeguarding, evidence-based delivery, and a focus on grassroots enrichment. The trust favours charities working in deprived urban and rural Essex communities facing poverty, educational obstacles, or social exclusion. There is no religious restriction.

They do not make grants to individuals. They also exclude non-charitable activities and projects that fall outside the advancement of youth, such as those not directly benefiting young people under 25 faced with hardship or disadvantage.

The trust welcomes unsolicited applications and prefers to work in partnership with local charities. They adopt an outcomes-focused approach, channelling resources through capable organisations to achieve measurable impact. They favour established organisations with robust safeguarding and evidence-based delivery.
