register-of-charities.charitycommission.gov.ukAbout Football for Ukraine CIO
Football for Ukraine CIO was a charitable incorporated organisation established in April 2022, dedicated to relieving suffering caused by the war in Ukraine. It drew on football and sports networks to mobilise support from individuals, companies, and the UK football community. Its mission centred on addressing financial hardship, advancing health, saving lives, supporting disabled people, alleviating poverty, and providing education and training. Guided by values of compassion, solidarity, and the unifying power of sport, it aimed for rapid, tangible impacts on war-affected communities. The charity funded emergency relief and recovery efforts, favouring direct, responsive grants over bureaucracy. It has since ceased operations and no longer accepts applications; prospective applicants should contact UKRAINE CHARITY instead.
What Football for Ukraine CIO funds
The charity funded emergency relief and recovery efforts for war-affected communities in Ukraine and other conflict-affected areas. Supported activities included direct financial aid, health interventions, disability support, educational outreach, and capacity-building for partner organisations. Grants were made to both individuals and charities, from grassroots to larger entities, prioritising urgent needs and longer-term wellbeing. The focus was on poverty alleviation, health, disability, education, and youth support, with a particular emphasis on children, families, and disabled people facing displacement.
Who can apply
The charity supported individuals and charitable organisations working in Ukraine and conflict-affected areas, with a focus on children, families, disabled people, and those facing displacement. There were no specified restrictions on organisation type or income size, but the work was centred on Ukraine-centric relief. The charity did not accept unsolicited applications and is now closed to new funding.
What Football for Ukraine CIO doesn't fund
The charity did not fund activities outside its mission of war relief in Ukraine, such as unrelated community projects or non-emergency work. It focused exclusively on humanitarian aid and recovery for those affected by the conflict.
How they like to fund
The charity operated by invitation and through its networks, making direct, responsive grants to individuals and organisations. It favoured a low-bureaucracy approach, prioritising rapid impact. However, the charity has ceased operations and no longer accepts applications.
