Frieda Scott Charitable Trust

The Trust funds work addressing mental health, community development, poverty and hardship, and education and skills. Specifically, they support activities that improve mental health and wellbeing, help people build connections and feel included, support families facing complex challenges, help people overcome barriers to skills and confidence, and strengthen resilience in rural communities. Grants can cover project delivery, core costs and capital works. The Trust focuses its funding in Westmorland, South Lakeland and Eden, and prioritises organisations with a strong local connection to these areas.

The Trust welcomes applications from registered charities, charitable incorporated organisations, community interest companies, social enterprises and community groups. They prioritise organisations rooted in their local area, particularly those based in or serving Westmorland, South Lakeland and Eden. The Trust’s current focus areas mean they are especially interested in work that supports mental health, helps people build connections, supports families with complex challenges, and helps people develop skills and confidence. There is no religious restriction. Unsolicited applications are accepted.

The Trust does not fund animals, heritage, environment, faith or arts and culture. They also exclude statutory bodies such as schools or hospitals, statutory services, medical research, individuals, expeditions, and annual or one-off events. Funding is not available for work that has already taken place or will commence before a grant is awarded. Organisations that have applied to the Trust in the previous twelve months are not eligible. Capital appeals for village halls, community halls and playgrounds are only considered under the Small Grants programme.

The Trust offers two grant programmes: Small Grants and Main Grants. They support project delivery, core costs and capital works. Funding is available for both one-year and multi-year grants, depending on the programme. The Trust welcomes unsolicited applications.
