Geoff Herrington Foundation

The foundation supported UK charities advancing the education, development, welfare and poverty relief of disadvantaged young people. It also provided some support for overseas aid in less developed countries. It favoured experiential programmes that build skills, self-belief and inclusion, such as youth development voyages, educational initiatives in Kenya, and projects for conflict-affected children. The foundation funded work that could take place anywhere in the UK or abroad, as long as it benefited disadvantaged youth.

Eligible applicants were strictly UK-registered charities, typically small to medium-sized with proven programmes. The foundation prioritised organisations supporting socially and economically marginalised young people, including those from low-income households, young carers, or those with learning needs. It welcomed applications from charities based in the UK but working anywhere, including overseas. However, the foundation worked by invitation only and did not accept unsolicited applications. It is now closed to new grants.

The foundation did not fund general giving or activities outside its core focus on excluded youth. It also did not support organisations that were not UK-registered charities, and it did not accept unsolicited applications. Funding was not provided for non-aligned activities that fell outside its mission of empowering disadvantaged young people through education, development and inclusion.

The foundation offered strategic, multi-year support as a catalyst for confidence-building and social participation. It provided funding for projects, core costs, or capacity-building, and worked by invitation only. The foundation has fully expended its funds and is now closed to new grants.
