Greater London Authority

The Greater London Authority (GLA), established by the Greater London Authority Act 1999 and operational since July 2000, serves as London's strategic governing body, led by a directly elected Mayor and London Assembly. Its core mission is to create a fairer, safer, greener, and more prosperous city by improving public services, tackling inequality, climate change, housing shortages, and economic disparities. Guided by values of social justice, inclusivity, transparency, and sustainability, the GLA empowers communities through participatory, co-designed initiatives that champion disadvantaged Londoners, including children, ethnic minorities, disabled people, rough sleepers, and low-income families.

The GLA funds projects advancing Mayoral priorities such as affordable housing, homelessness prevention, youth violence reduction, skills and employment pathways (e.g., Adult Skills Fund), community cohesion, air quality, green infrastructure, food poverty relief (e.g., £2 million to The Felix Project for child holiday meals), health/wellbeing, and regeneration. It supports a broad spectrum of activities—from grassroots social action and volunteering to capital projects for new homes and facilities—prioritising measurable impact, equality, resilience, and collaboration with borough councils, charities, and social enterprises for London residents.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities and social enterprises delivering within Greater London; income preferences vary by programme (e.g., £100k-£10m turnover for some, smaller grassroots under £500k for others), with no strict min/max. Unsolicited applications are not accepted; opportunities launch periodically via website calls (e.g., Loved and Wanted Fund EOI closed 19 October 2025), typically involving EOI then full proposals, with decisions in 8-12 weeks by panels. Grants range £10,000-£100,000 (up to £650k+ for larger partners), covering project, revenue, capital, or select core costs. Distinctively London-centric with a statutory remit, it excludes non-London activities and emphasises innovative, systemic responses to urban challenges over generic proposals.
