Howard Watson Symington Memorial Charity

The charity funds a wide range of activities including poverty relief, financial hardship support, mental health promotion through counselling and peer support groups, physical health services, disability support with equipment and respite care, education initiatives such as after-school clubs and skills training, elderly care addressing social isolation through befriending and day services, arts and heritage projects, sports and leisure access, and environmental enhancements. It supports project-based services, core costs, capital improvements, and emergency aid. All funding is restricted to the area of benefit: Market Harborough, Great Bowden, and Little Bowden.

Applications are welcomed from individuals, community groups, schools, registered charities, and sports clubs based in or serving Market Harborough, Great Bowden, and Little Bowden. The trust prioritises children and young people at risk, isolated elderly residents, families in poverty or crisis, disabled individuals, and those facing domestic abuse or social exclusion. The trustees are keen to see the effort applicants have made to raise funds themselves.

The charity does not fund national or non-local initiatives, projects outside its defined area, or statutory services. It is less likely to make repeat grants year on year.
