Only registered charities may apply to the John Slater Foundation. The Foundation looks for organisations that are rooted in the local communities they serve, particularly those based in the North West of England or the named towns of Adlington, Bolton, Stoke-on-Trent, and Eastbourne. There is no religious restriction, and the Foundation is open to charities of all faiths and none. It prioritises small, grassroots charities that understand the needs of their area.
