The Foundation's work is UK-based, though it occasionally supports activity with broader impact that benefits the UK.

The Foundation supports UK-registered charities that are smaller and impact-driven, with a focus on those that show urgency and evidence of change in climate and environmental work. It places a priority on charities pioneering climate solutions, such as those embedding climate education in schools, protecting nature, and advancing social justice for greener pathways. There is no religious restriction on applicants. The Foundation's work is UK-based, and it favours organisations whose activities have national-scale potential or wider benefit to the UK. It also seeks mission-led teams that demonstrate collaboration and systemic thinking.

The Foundation does not fund non-charitable purposes, meaning activities that fall outside the legal definition of charitable work. It also avoids direct support to individuals, such as personal grants or sponsorships, and will not consider projects that are not aligned with its environmental and climate-focused mission. This includes initiatives that lack a clear connection to climate change, nature conservation, or sustainability, as well as any work that does not demonstrate an evidence-based approach.

The Foundation does not accept unsolicited applications. Trustees proactively identify and approach partners through their networks and research, favouring informal dialogue and flexible partnership. Grants typically support unrestricted core costs, general operations, or seed and project funding for national-scale initiatives. Funding is enabling and non-restrictive, and may occasionally be multi-year for key allies.
