Lady Hewley's Charity

The Trust funds welfare grants that relieve financial hardship for ministers and their dependants, educational support covering training costs for ministerial students at approved colleges, and direct provision of supported housing via almshouses for eligible elderly residents connected to Nonconformist traditions. Interventions focus on alleviating poverty, preventing destitution, sustaining family wellbeing for clergy households, and enabling continued Christian service. Geographic preference is given to the northern counties of England, especially Yorkshire, York, Lancashire, and Northumberland, with a focus on areas of social and economic deprivation.

Registered charities and faith groups connected to Baptist, Congregational, or United Reformed Church traditions may apply. Beneficiaries include active ministers facing subsistence challenges, retired ministers in poverty or isolation, widows and widowers of ministers, and theology students preparing for United Reformed or Baptist ministry. The Trust gives preference to applicants resident in the northern counties of England, particularly Yorkshire, and to those with a long-service record or faithful commitment to Nonconformist ministry.

The Trust does not fund general charitable projects, organisational capacity building, innovation, or causes beyond ministerial relief, theological education, and almshouse maintenance. It does not support non-United Reformed or Baptist denominations, active project-based work, or beneficiaries lacking direct ministry ties.

The Trust welcomes unsolicited applications and provides targeted individual grants and direct housing provision. It does not specify funding periods or cost types in its published materials.
