Leeds Hospitals Charity

Leeds Hospitals Charity is the primary charitable partner of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, supporting over a million patients, families, and staff across sites like Leeds General Infirmary, Leeds Children’s Hospital, St James’s University Hospital, and the Leeds Cancer Centre. Its mission is to enhance care quality, patient experience, and health outcomes by funding what NHS budgets cannot, through core values of partnership, community engagement, stewardship, and tangible impact. With a distinctive focus on innovation and holistic wellbeing, it drives healthcare excellence via six priorities: equipment, education, environment, health and wellbeing, patient support, and innovation—prioritising children and young people, those with rare/serious illnesses (e.g., cancer, motor neurone disease, leukaemia), long-term conditions, and NHS staff development.

It funds clinical projects, capital grants for specialist equipment and environmental upgrades (e.g., children’s play areas, family spaces), research fellowships, staff wellbeing initiatives, and patient experience programmes like play teams or discharge support. Beneficiaries include hospital-based teams, patient groups, and research collaborations directly benefiting the Leeds hospitals network.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities, community groups, or academic institutions operating within Leeds, with projects aligning to Trust sites; no income thresholds apply, but medium/large organisations with delivery capacity are favoured. Applications via online form are rolling for standard grants (£5,000–£150,000; one-stage under £10,000, two-stage EOI/full for larger), with themed research calls having deadlines (e.g., EOI 21 July 2025). Smaller grants decide quickly; larger via panels every 2-3 months.

Exclusions cover non-Leeds projects, core/unrestricted funding, or anything not enhancing Trust provision. Uniquely concentrated on hospital journeys, it offers substantial awards (e.g., £1m+ yearly for children’s hospital), collaborative capital/research, and measurable, sustainable impact.
