MCS Charitable Foundation

The Foundation supports work across domestic retrofit and energy efficiency, renewable heating such as heat pumps, innovative finance for low carbon upgrades, public engagement and behaviour change, workforce skills for green jobs, and applied research. It funds demonstration projects that showcase retrofit methodologies, community-led schemes for renewable adoption, training programmes including technician apprenticeships, and environmental NGO initiatives that raise awareness of retrofit. Beneficiaries include households, low-income communities facing energy poverty, professionals building green skills, and local groups coordinating energy upgrades. The Foundation looks for replicable, system-wide impact that can scale nationally, and welcomes collaborations across government, industry, and civil society.

The Foundation funds organisations rather than individuals, and supports registered charities, charitable incorporated organisations, community interest companies, social enterprises, and community groups. It prioritises charities, academics, and community groups as catalysts for systemic change. The Foundation's beneficiaries include households transitioning to low carbon homes, low-income communities at risk of energy poverty, and professionals developing green skills. There is no restriction on religious context. Applicants should be working in the environment and energy field, with projects that offer potential for national scalability and evidence-based impact.

The Foundation does not fund routine installations, refurbishments, or transport projects. It also excludes core operational costs and one-off local activities that lack national scalability or evidence potential. Applications are therefore best focused on projects that can demonstrate wider impact and replicability.

The Foundation welcomes unsolicited applications and works in partnership with government, industry, and civil society. It integrates grantmaking with advocacy and sector leadership, funding demonstration projects, community-led schemes, training programmes, and environmental NGO initiatives. Its approach favours practical enablers, capacity building, and policy influence to achieve system-wide change.
