Roddick Foundation

The Foundation funds progressive initiatives worldwide, focusing on climate justice, agroecology, regenerative agriculture, land rights, biodiversity, sustainable food systems, women's rights, anti-GMO efforts, marine conservation, fair tourism, and the empowerment of marginalised communities. Grantees span grassroots networks, start-ups, and established groups, including UK efforts such as inclusive programming, climate action, and oil and finance advocacy, plus international projects supporting girls' education and gender violence responses. Support emphasises core costs, flexible or unrestricted funding, and capacity building to catalyse movements and amplify underrepresented voices.

Eligible entities include UK and global charities without income, size, or geographic restrictions, though alignment with transformative justice is key. The Foundation supports grassroots networks, start-ups, and established groups working for systemic change. It prioritises organisations that challenge mainstream narratives and empower marginalised communities, including women, girls, and those affected by poverty and environmental injustice. Both UK-based and international groups are welcome, provided their work aligns with the Foundation's values of social, labour, and environmental justice.

The Foundation does not typically support conventional or risk-averse initiatives. It focuses on organisations that challenge the status quo and embrace controversial causes for systemic change. Projects that do not align with its values of social, environmental, and labour justice are unlikely to be considered. The Foundation avoids funding mainstream programmes that avoid controversy or seek to maintain existing power structures.

The Foundation operates by invitation only, proactively selecting organisations rather than accepting unsolicited applications. It provides core costs, flexible and unrestricted funding, and capacity building support. The trust-based approach favours long-term partnerships over short-term fixes, prioritising impact and movement-building. Funding is tailored to the needs of each grantee, with an emphasis on resourcing courageous work for people and planet.
