It funds innovative projects enhancing children's and young people's climate understanding, engagement, and leadership, especially for disadvantaged communities facing nature or education gaps. Priorities include environmental education, hands-on nature initiatives like tree/vegetable planting, school-based climate projects, and partnerships for urban/rural delivery. Key programmes are the Roots & Routes Fund (youth-led charities, unrestricted grants) and Nature Prize (schools/colleges for climate/nature activities), with occasional international support like Kenya's renewable energy projects for schools/clinics.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities, academic institutions, or community groups based in the UK (some England-only, e.g., Roots & Routes), with annual income £10,000–£500,000; no support for individuals or non-aligned projects. Grants typically range £1,000–£20,000 (up to £350,000 for multi-year partnerships), covering project-specific or unrestricted costs like core expenses and capacity building. Decisions are adhoc within 4-6 weeks, emphasizing proven delivery in high-need contexts.
