Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust (2016)

The Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust (OHCT), established as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in 2016 while continuing the mission of the 1964 Trust, is dedicated to preserving and enhancing Oxfordshire's historic churches and chapels from Saxon times to the twentieth century. Serving local communities and the public impartially across denominations, OHCT embodies values of inclusivity, stewardship, and local engagement, acting as a catalyst for timely repairs, security measures, accessibility improvements, and public appreciation of ecclesiastical heritage through events like Ride & Stride and matched funding.

It funds capital works essential to the fabric and contents of these buildings, including roof repairs, stonework restoration, stained glass conservation, artefact preservation, alarms, and sustainability upgrades. Beneficiaries are primarily Parochial Church Councils, parish churches, historic chapels, and volunteer groups managing listed structures of architectural or historic interest, prioritising projects that ensure long-term integrity and community benefit.

Eligible applicants are Oxfordshire-based community groups and church bodies with no religious restrictions or formal income thresholds, though preference leans toward small to medium-sized, grassroots organisations. Applications, accepted unsolicited via online form after contacting a local Area Representative, require detailed project descriptions, photos, plans, reports, and PCC minutes. Grants, typically £500–£10,000 (most £2,000–£7,500), are decided at quarterly Board meetings (March, June, November), with deadlines ~four weeks prior and decisions in 6–8 weeks; emergencies considered at trustees' discretion.

OHCT excludes core costs, general religious/social programmes, non-heritage works, or projects outside Oxfordshire, distinguishing itself as a specialist, non-denominational funder focused solely on physical conservation with strong emphasis on local fundraising and heritage promotion.
