Peter Minet Trust

The Trust funds work that addresses severe and multiple challenges facing local communities in Lambeth and Southwark. Its priorities include mental health services that offer support to individuals and groups, disability advocacy and inclusion programmes that promote independence and person-centred support, youth work that provides mentoring and opportunities for young people experiencing barriers, poverty alleviation that helps families and households in crisis, and social inclusion initiatives that reduce isolation among older residents. It favours holistic, prevention-focused approaches and collaborative learning, with an emphasis on grassroots groups embedded in their neighbourhoods and able to adapt to evolving needs.

Registered charities and community interest companies (CICs) are eligible for the Trust’s grant programmes, provided they are not CICs Limited by Shares. Priority is given to Black-led organisations rooted in Lambeth and Southwark, and to groups whose leaders and staff have lived experience of the issues they work on. The Trust also looks for strong governance and finance systems. Individuals, schools, and faith groups are not supported, and applicants should be locally embedded in the two boroughs.

The Trust does not fund one-off events, CICs Limited by Shares, individuals, schools, or faith groups. It also excludes national charities’ local branches that do not have sole roots in Lambeth and Southwark, and organisations operating beyond these boroughs.

The Trust provides multi-year grants and favours unrestricted core funding, allowing grassroots groups to respond to evolving needs. Its approach is trust-based, with an emphasis on relational partnerships, face-to-face engagement, and flexible support. It values collaborative learning between grantees.
