Peter Minet Trust

Peter Minet Trust strengthens urban communities in deprived South London areas by empowering small, embedded local charities addressing severe, multiple challenges through unrestricted core funding. Rooted in values of independence, locality, flexibility, collaboration, empowerment, and trust, it champions Black-led organisations driving community agency and power. Its philosophy centers on trust-based philanthropy, believing sustainable change arises from relational partnerships, face-to-face engagement, learning exchanges, and flexible support enabling grassroots groups to adapt to evolving needs like economic pressures and social fragmentation.

It prioritises mental health services including counselling, peer support groups, and therapeutic activities for individuals with anxiety, depression, or trauma, particularly in Black and minoritised communities; disability advocacy and inclusion programs offering day services, respite care, and person-centred support for people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, or complex health needs; youth work encompassing after-school clubs, mentoring, skills training, and employability programs for young people aged 16-25 facing barriers like poverty or exclusion; poverty alleviation through family support, food insecurity relief, and cost-of-living aid for households in crisis; social inclusion initiatives like befriending schemes and community cohesion activities combating isolation among elderly residents; and holistic interventions such as creative arts, outdoor activities, and carer support groups promoting preventative, trauma-informed, community-led recovery and resilience.

It excludes national charities' local branches without sole roots in these areas, organisations operating beyond place-based boundaries, and project-specific or capital funding. Distinctive for championing Black- and minoritised-led grassroots charities with deep community ties, it prioritises beneficiaries like economically hard-pressed families, mentally distressed adults, isolated older people, and youth in hardship within Lambeth and Southwark's diverse urban neighbourhoods, favouring unrestricted multi-year grants, collaborative learning, and organisations embodying lived experience leadership for equitable, adaptive impact.
