The Royal Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust, established in 2006 upon the regiment's formation, perpetuates a longstanding tradition of regimental care by alleviating hardship among serving members, veterans, reservists from the Royal Yorkshire Regiment and its antecedent units, as well as their immediate families and dependants. Rooted in values of loyalty, duty, mutual support, dignity, and lifelong regard for national service, the Trust provides grants and practical aid to those facing sickness, injury, financial distress, destitution, or family crises, drawing funds from regimental contributions like the One Day’s Pay Scheme, donations, and legacies. Governed by senior regimental trustees, it emphasises impartial, needs-led support assessed independently by SSAFA or the Royal British Legion.

It prioritises emergency relief for priority debts, essential home repairs, rent or relocation, mobility aids, urgent clothing, carpets, and food vouchers, disbursing around £100,000–£300,000 annually across 150+ cases, often partnering with SSAFA, RBL, and ABF Soldiers’ Charity for holistic aid. Beneficiaries must demonstrate direct regimental affiliation, with support available UK-wide and overseas regardless of location.

Unsolicited applications from charities or organisations are not accepted; requests must originate via SSAFA/RBL caseworker reports submitted to the rolling Regimental Benevolence Committee, which meets frequently with decisions in 2–4 weeks. Typical grants range £500–£2,500, rarely higher, with no direct cash payments except in extremes.

Distinctively regimental—not generalist—this Trust excludes core costs, capital projects, unrestricted funding, or non-affiliated cases, focusing exclusively on discreet, collaborative interventions that uphold wellbeing, independence, and honour for the regimental family.
