Solberga Foundation

The foundation's funding focuses on climate justice, gender equality and animal welfare, especially at their intersections. It supports grassroots organisations, activist groups and individuals, prioritising those led by or representing communities of colour, low-income groups and Indigenous peoples most affected by the climate crisis. Grants cover project costs, core costs, advocacy, movement-building and capacity-building. Geographically, the foundation works primarily in England but also supports UK-wide and global initiatives.

The Solberga Foundation supports small to medium-sized charities and groups, with a strong priority on grassroots and underrepresented voices. Eligible organisations include those led by or representing communities of colour, low-income groups and Indigenous peoples. There are no formal income thresholds. The foundation does not accept unsolicited applications; instead, it proactively identifies partners through its trustees. Beneficiary groups are those most affected by the climate crisis, and the foundation seeks to build power from below.

The foundation does not fund statutory bodies or activities misaligned with its systemic change focus. It avoids projects that are not rooted in grassroots leadership or that do not address root causes of injustice. Additionally, it does not accept unsolicited applications.

The foundation uses a proactive, trust-based funding model. It does not accept unsolicited applications; instead, its family trustees identify and approach partners on a rolling basis. Grants are typically long-term and cover both project and core costs, with a low-burden, solidarity-driven approach. The foundation operates without paid staff, relying on pro bono support, and emphasises relationship-centred support over formal reporting.
