Tides Foundation

Tides Foundation funds across interconnected cause areas. These include climate and environmental justice, addressing root causes of the climate crisis through solutions-based approaches; health equity, including reproductive health equity; immigrant rights and belonging, including countering xenophobia through media and research; democratic engagement and voting rights; and girls' advancement. Supported activities include core costs, project delivery, emergency response, training, research, and equipment. Work is primarily US-focused, with some global south reach. Specific programmes concentrate on regions such as the South, Southwest and Midwest.

Tides Foundation supports registered charities, community groups and social enterprises. Priority beneficiaries include BIWOC leaders (cis and trans women, two-spirit, non-binary and gender nonconforming people), ethnic minority communities, young people, refugees and other marginalised groups. The foundation centres historically overburdened communities and frontline leaders. Unsolicited applications are accepted.

Tides Foundation does not fund organisations or programmes operating outside the United States (except where specified). It excludes projects inconsistent with a legitimate charitable purpose and applicable law, including any political campaign intervention or impermissible private benefit. Projects inconsistent with Tides vision, mission and approach are also excluded.

Tides Foundation provides flexible funding, including unrestricted, general operating, project, rapid response and multi-year support. Programmes may differ by theme, with some offering semi-annual grants. The foundation takes a trust-based approach and focuses on movement-building, supporting frontline leaders and historically overburdened communities.
