Stefanou Foundation

The Foundation supports activities addressing childhood trauma prevention, domestic and child abuse interruption, and improved outcomes for at-risk expectant and new parents and their young children. It funds intensive, holistic interventions from pregnancy through early childhood, combining therapeutic work, skill-building, and practical aid to prevent abuse transmission. The flagship For Baby’s Sake programme exemplifies this approach, delivered in partnership with statutory and voluntary sectors and evaluated by academic institutions. The Foundation’s work is geographically focused on Hertfordshire, where it develops and tests models intended for wider UK impact. It prioritises evidence-based, trauma-informed whole-family support that does not separate victims from perpetrators.

Eligible organisations are UK-registered charities and academic institutions based in Hertfordshire. The Foundation prefers medium-to-large organisations capable of intensive programme delivery. It prioritises work that benefits vulnerable babies, children, and their families, including at-risk expectant and new parents. The Foundation does not accept unsolicited applications; funding is by invitation only through strategic partnerships. There is no religious restriction on applicants.

The Foundation avoids generalist or small-scale grants, core funding, and non-trauma-informed projects. It refuses to silo victims from perpetrators, so it does not fund programmes that address only one side of domestic abuse. It does not support work outside its geographic focus of Hertfordshire or organisations that are not UK-registered charities or academic institutions.

Funding is invite-only via strategic partnerships. The Foundation provides multi-year support for programme implementation and evaluation, often on a matched funding basis. It works closely with statutory and voluntary sector partners to deliver intensive, evidence-based interventions. The Foundation does not offer one-off or small-scale grants.
