Wolfson Foundation

The Wolfson Foundation funds capital projects across the United Kingdom, including buildings, refurbishments and equipment. Its health and disability programme supports physical health, mental health, disability services, and work with older people, children and young people. Projects include hospices, mental health facilities and disability centres, as well as equipment for organisations serving these groups. The Foundation also funds science, medicine, education, heritage and the arts, with a preference for projects of national or regional significance. All grants are for capital works and equipment; core costs and salaries are not covered.

The Foundation makes grants to UK-registered charities and schools. Projects must benefit older people, disabled people, children or young people, particularly within the health and disability programme. The Foundation looks for organisations that can secure match funding and demonstrate strong governance. Unsolicited applications are welcome. There is no restriction on religious context, and the Foundation works across the whole of the United Kingdom.

The Wolfson Foundation does not fund core costs, salaries, retrospective projects or work outside the UK. As a capital funder, it does not support revenue or ongoing running costs. Grants are not made to individuals directly.

The Wolfson Foundation provides capital grants, typically over a period of two years for drawdown. Match funding is usually required. The Foundation operates a rigorous process of external peer review and trustee oversight. It welcomes unsolicited applications and has separate programmes for different themes. Multi-year grants are available for capital projects.
