Bain Charitable Trust

The Trust funds a broad range of welfare activities, including health and medical charities delivering services for children with complex health needs, hospital care, medical equipment, emergency response, cancer treatment, and heart failure management. It also supports youth development through after-school clubs, mentoring, and community sports programmes; elderly care including hospice services and isolation relief; disability support encompassing advocacy, equipment, and activities for people with physical and learning disabilities; homelessness prevention through outreach and support projects; and creative arts community initiatives. Funded interventions emphasise therapeutic activities, respite care, peer support, day services, and community-led wellbeing programmes targeting children, young people, families caring for disabled children, elderly residents, and homeless individuals. All funding is directed to organisations within North West England, particularly Lancashire and Cheshire.

Only organisations may apply, with priority given to registered charities and community groups. The Trust welcomes applications from grassroots organisations serving local communities in North West England, especially in Lancashire, Cheshire, Blackburn with Darwen, and Cheshire West and Chester. Beneficiary groups include children and young people, families caring for disabled children, elderly residents, and homeless individuals. There is no religious restriction on applicants, and unsolicited applications are accepted.

The Trust excludes non-local causes and does not typically support organisations operating outside its priority geography of North West England. It also prioritises institutional beneficiaries with proven public benefit over national bodies, though this is not an outright exclusion.

The Trust offers discretionary grants and provides both project and core funding. It welcomes unsolicited applications and operates with a trustee-led responsiveness, preserving its endowment for long-term support. Funding decisions are guided by flexibility and sustainability, and the Trust values partnerships with grassroots organisations.
