Birmingham International Airport Community Trust Fund

The Trust supports a broad range of community-led projects across East Birmingham and North Solihull. Environmental work includes restoring wildlife habitats, creating accessible green spaces and promoting biodiversity. Heritage conservation projects preserve local history and cultural assets. Community cohesion initiatives cover sports facilities, youth clubs, after-school activities and leisure programmes that tackle isolation for children, young people, families and isolated residents. Health and wellbeing interventions fund equipment for active lifestyles, therapeutic outdoor activities and mental health promotion through recreation. Employment-focused projects provide training facilities and skills development for unemployed youth and adults facing barriers. The Trust also funds physical improvements to parks, community centres and recreational spaces tailored for people with physical disabilities, learning disabilities or special needs. All funded activities should deliver tangible, sustainable benefits to deprived communities under flight paths.

Only organisations based in East Birmingham or North Solihull may apply. Eligible applicants include registered charities and community groups. The Trust particularly favours small, locally managed charities with strong community representation and evidence of matching funds. Priority beneficiaries are children, young people, families, isolated residents, people with disabilities, and unemployed youth and adults living in deprived areas most affected by airport operations. Organisations should demonstrate that their projects are grassroots-led and address the root causes of deprivation in their communities.

The Trust does not fund core running costs, general salaries, statutory services or ongoing provision. It also excludes national organisations and branches of larger entities that lack local control. Projects that are purely service delivery rather than capital improvements or capacity building are unlikely to be supported.

The Trust provides funding for capital improvements and capacity building, and it expects applicants to demonstrate that they have secured matching funds. It welcomes unsolicited applications and works in partnership with local authorities and community representatives to ensure grants deliver lasting, tangible benefits.
