veoliatrust.orgAbout Veolia Environmental Trust
The Veolia Environmental Trust is a UK registered charity that supports community and environmental projects near active landfill sites in England. Established in 1997 by Veolia as an independent entity, it channels funds from the government's Landfill Communities Fund tax credit scheme. Its mission is to promote community action, wellbeing, and environmental sustainability by funding capital projects that create sustainable, carbon-neutral community spaces and protect biodiversity. The Trust prioritises initiatives that are inclusive and accessible to everyone, and that inspire a sustainable, carbon-neutral community space.
What Veolia Environmental Trust funds
The Trust funds capital works and equipment for community and environmental projects. It supports the creation and enhancement of green spaces, wildlife habitats, and community facilities. Priorities include projects that promote community action and wellbeing, are inclusive and accessible, inspire the creation of a sustainable carbon-neutral community space, and protect and enhance biodiversity and natural habitats. The Land Purchase Scheme funds the purchase of natural habitats for native species to thrive. All projects must be within 10 miles of an active landfill site in England.
Who can apply
Registered charities, constituted not-for-profit organisations, community groups, and local authorities can apply. The Trust also accepts applications from Environmental Bodies enrolled with ENTRUST. Projects must benefit the general public. The Trust requires match funding from third parties. Organisations must be based in England and the project must be within a stipulated proximity to Veolia landfill sites.
What Veolia Environmental Trust doesn't fund
The Trust does not fund core costs, salaries, training, research, events, feasibility studies, or emergency appeals. It excludes faith-based projects, projects in car parks, schools, pre-schools, nurseries, colleges, universities, offices, medical centres, hospitals, hospices, zoos, shops, cafés, allotments, graveyards, roads or public highways, crematoria, or where there is on-site accommodation. It also does not fund historic building restoration, statues, monuments or memorials, or the purchase of land or a building. Projects that have already started are not eligible. The Habitat and Biodiversity Grant Scheme does not fund projects for community use.
How they like to fund
The Trust makes one-off grants for capital projects. It requires a 10% third-party match funding contribution. The Land Purchase Scheme offers larger grants for purchasing natural habitats, while other schemes provide smaller grants for community and environmental projects. The Trust welcomes unsolicited applications.
