BDNAT funds pragmatic health-related interventions. This includes small grants for medical aids and adapted equipment, as well as larger project grants for charities or health professionals addressing complex needs, prevention, or support for disadvantaged groups. Beneficiaries must be Brighton & Hove residents or patients of local practitioners. The trust supports work that relieves suffering and aids recovery, with a particular focus on those facing financial hardship alongside illness or disability. All funded activities must demonstrate both medical and financial need.

UK-registered charities, community groups, health professionals, and individuals can apply. The trust prefers small to medium local organisations. Applicants must serve residents of Brighton & Hove or patients of local practitioners. Both the medical and financial need of beneficiaries must be demonstrated. There is no religious restriction on applicants or beneficiaries.

The trust does not fund core or unrestricted costs. Capital projects are only considered if they have a direct health link. Any work outside the Brighton & Hove area is excluded. Additionally, activities that are not health-related or that do not demonstrate both medical and financial need are not supported.
