Buttle UK's active Chances for Children programme provides individually tailored grants that invest in children and young people's present and future lives. The grants fund equipment, training, transport, events, and emergency support, with a focus on improving social and emotional wellbeing and increasing capacity to engage in education. They support children and young people who are ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom, prioritising those experiencing disruptive home environments, domestic abuse, mental health challenges, or poverty linked to a specific crisis. Their former Support for Boarding programme, which enabled access to boarding school placements, is now permanently closed.

Applications are accepted from professionals working directly with the children or young people they are applying for. Eligible organisations include registered charities, schools, community benefit societies, housing associations, and public sector bodies such as social services and health centres. They support children and young people facing crisis, poverty, domestic abuse, mental health difficulties, or trauma. Individuals cannot apply directly; the application must be made by a professional who knows the child's situation.

Buttle UK does not fund applications for children under 2 where the primary need is for the parent or carer. They do not support cases where poverty is the sole issue without a specific crisis event, disability or chronic illness as the primary need, general family separation, or Looked After Children. They also do not fund situations where statutory funding should be the primary source, or where the child or young person is not in education or training for at least 12 hours per week.

Buttle UK provides one-off, individually tailored grants for specific items and activities such as equipment, training, transport, events, and emergency support. They operate through a referral model where professionals apply on behalf of children and young people. Grants are designed to address immediate barriers and promote stability and engagement in education. The charity does not fund core organisational costs or capital projects.
