Community Foundation for Calderdale

The Community Foundation for Calderdale (CFFC), established in 1991, is a not-for-profit community foundation dedicated to reducing inequalities and catalysing positive social change across Calderdale, West Yorkshire. Its mission focuses on funding transformative voluntary action to create opportunities and improve quality of life for those most in need, guided by values of responsiveness, local expertise, partnership, and community-led empowerment. With over £34 million distributed to local projects and growing endowment funds for perpetual support, CFFC stands out as a deeply embedded convenor of partnerships, brokering cross-sector collaboration and rapidly mobilising during crises like Covid-19 and floods.

CFFC prioritises five themes: homelessness and housing, poverty and disadvantage, health and wellbeing (especially mental health), community cohesion, and environmental sustainability aligned with Calderdale's Carbon Zero Strategy. It supports low-income individuals, homeless people, children and young people, marginalised minorities, those with health challenges, and deprived neighbourhoods through diverse activities including core costs, support services, advice, emergency relief, healthy living initiatives, volunteer development, capacity building, community engagement, and some capital for resilience projects. Grants back grassroots charities, food hubs, youth groups, and sports clubs addressing food insecurity, digital exclusion, and integration.

Eligible applicants include UK-registered charities, CICs (without shareholder dividends), constituted community groups, faith bodies, and amateur sports clubs benefiting Calderdale residents exclusively—no income thresholds apply, favouring local, community-led organisations. Typical grants range £1,500–£7,000 (up to £5,000 for General Grants, £7,000 for Resilience Fund). Unsolicited applications via online form require constitution, accounts, and policies; rounds only, with next deadlines 30 June 2025 (Resilience Fund) and 8 September 2025 (General Summer). No religious restrictions; excludes non-local or non-charitable work. Decisions within 12 weeks by local expert panels.
