Croydon Voluntary Action

Croydon Voluntary Action (CVA) is the leading umbrella organisation for Croydon's voluntary and community sector, established to promote charitable purposes, empower local citizens, and build resilient communities through social inclusion, grassroots activism, and sector advocacy. Governed by a board of trustees aligned with NCVO standards, CVA's mission focuses on five strategic aims: empowering communities, strengthening volunteering, supporting organisational development, advocating for groups, and fostering cross-sector partnerships. It champions small, citizen-led initiatives that amplify diverse voices amid social and economic challenges, nurturing local leadership and collaboration in the London Borough of Croydon.

CVA funds projects tackling youth disenfranchisement, homelessness, temporary accommodation, refugees, asylum seekers, health, poverty alleviation, and creativity to combat isolation and disadvantage. Priorities target grassroots efforts like carers' cafes, community gardens, family arts in food banks, and cohesion events, via programmes such as the Croydon Community Grants Fund, which offers seed grants up to £1,000 for start-ups or scale-ups, with follow-on funding to £5,000 based on impact. It supports social enterprises, community groups, and UK-registered charities exclusively benefiting Croydon residents, prioritising those with incomes under £75,000 and strong local partnerships.

Unsolicited applications are welcomed via online forms in quarterly rounds (2025 deadlines: 28 March, 6 June, 19 September, 12 December at 5pm), with panels deciding within 1-2 weeks. Grants range £500-£5,000 for project delivery, seed funding, revenue, or linked overheads, but exclude core funding, capital, or equipment. CVA stands out as a convenor and mentor, requiring safeguarding, insurance, and evaluation, while partnering with Croydon Council to sustain a vibrant, inclusive sector ecosystem.
