Greater Change Foundation

Greater Change Foundation, a UK-registered CIO established in February 2020 by Alex McCallion and Jonathan Tan, empowers individuals experiencing homelessness to achieve lasting stability through personalised cash grants. Rooted in empathy, client agency, dignity, and evidence-based impact—with over 86% of clients sustaining their move out of homelessness—its distinctive approach centres on flexible funding decided by clients alongside support workers, delivered exclusively via trusted partner charities to address unmet barriers like rent deposits, furnishings, ID documents, training, education, or disability adaptations, complementing rather than replacing frontline services.

The foundation prioritises UK homelessness, focusing on single adults, those with complex needs, and multiple barriers to tenancy, funding one-off grants that enable significant, sustainable steps forward. It supports a broad range of personalised needs not covered by statutory aid, with an initial emphasis on England (Oxford and South East) but scaling nationally to reach 100,000 clients over the next decade through partnerships like LandAid for youth at risk.

Eligible applicants are exclusively pre-selected UK-registered homelessness charities and support organisations (no unsolicited applications or open processes); grassroots to mid-sized entities with strong client ties are preferred, operating primarily in England with UK-wide ambitions. Grants typically range £100–£3,000 per beneficiary (larger block grants up to £50,000 for projects), awarded on a rolling basis via partner referrals with rapid decisions—often days to weeks.

It excludes emergency relief unlinked to sustainable outcomes, core costs, unrestricted funding, or direct client applications. Uniquely client-led with rigorous outcome tracking, privacy safeguards, and a refusal of top-down models, Greater Change catalyses systemic change by prioritising choice, fairness, and measurable personal empowerment.
