Lloyd's Patriotic Fund

Lloyd's Patriotic Fund, established in 1803 by Lloyd’s underwriters as the UK's oldest military charity, originally aided seamen and soldiers disabled in the Napoleonic Wars and their families. Today, its core mission is to support the welfare of serving and ex-service British Armed Forces members and their families facing disability, poverty, illness, or hardship, with a sharp focus on mental health, employability, and civilian life transitions. Driven by values of collaboration, evidence-based impact, and partnership across the Lloyd’s insurance market, it prioritizes holistic projects for the most vulnerable—such as those with PTSD, anxiety, depression, or employment barriers—funding charities that fill gaps in statutory and charitable services through targeted mental health treatments, training, and reintegration support.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities with a proven track record serving the armed forces community, preferably Cobseo members; for the current Tier 2 round, annual income must be under £2.5 million, with UK-wide geographic scope and no base restrictions. Small to medium-sized organizations demonstrating sustainable delivery and alignment with Ministry of Defence strategies are favored.

Grants typically range from £15,000 to £100,000 over one to two years (Tier 2), awarded via annual competitive online application rounds—no unsolicited submissions accepted. The next Tier 2 window opens 16 January 2025 (with webinar) and closes 14 February 2025, with decisions in 2-3 months. Exclusions include regimental charities, CICs, individuals, core costs, IT, war memorials, and government-duplicated work. Distinctively, LPF fosters multi-year partnerships, sector leadership, and measurable outcomes, exemplified by sustained funding to Combat Stress and RFEA, distributing ~£4 million since 2010 as a unifying, strategic force in military philanthropy.
