About Lloyd's Patriotic Fund

Lloyd's Patriotic Fund, established in 1803 by Lloyd's underwriters, is the UK's oldest military charity. Its mission is to support the welfare of serving and ex-service British Armed Forces members and their families facing disability, poverty, illness, or hardship. The Trust values collaboration, evidence-based impact, and partnership. It prioritises projects that help the most vulnerable transition to civilian life, with a sharp focus on mental health and employability.

What Lloyd's Patriotic Fund funds

The Trust funds UK-registered charities working with veterans and their families. Priority causes are mental health and employability, specifically projects that improve the transition to civilian life. Supported activities include training for employment, mental health support services, equipment for project delivery, and salaries for staff delivering these services. The Trust works across the UK with no geographic restrictions, funding charities that help the most vulnerable veterans and their families.

Who can apply

UK-registered charities with a proven track record serving the armed forces community are eligible. The Trust prioritises organisations helping the most vulnerable veterans and their families, particularly around mental health and employability. Charities that only support a specific sector based on ethnicity, faith, sexual orientation, or political beliefs are excluded. CICs and individuals cannot apply.

What Lloyd's Patriotic Fund doesn't fund

The Trust does not fund regimental charities, grant-giving organisations, or projects that duplicate Ministry of Defence provision. Core costs, CICs, and individuals are excluded. Also excluded are projects in the focus areas of other Lloyd's foundations (global disaster reduction, risk research), education and employability for young people in London, emergency appeals, and ad-hoc donations or sponsorship.

How they like to fund

The Trust funds project costs and salaries, but not core costs. It welcomes unsolicited applications and works in partnership with charities to deliver measurable outcomes.
